We celebrated the new year with our first date at a sushi restaurant in north Dallas. We enjoyed swapping stories of bad dates, great travels, and family.
A few days into our vacation to Iceland, we started chasing waterfalls with a few of our friends from Midland, Texas. One particular set of waterfalls, Granni and Haifoss, required a hour long drive to what felt like the middle of nowhere. When we arrived, I was ready to get to exploring! John stayed behind to water the moss. Our friend, Brendon, starts running about the cliffside, and I decided to follow feeling brave. Soon after John decides he's cold, this should have been my first clue, but Brendon locked John's jacket in the car. John begins to hunt down Brendon who is no longer in sight. He finally finds Brendon, and the keys, and returns to the car to retrieve the ring! Meanwhile I have managed to shimmy my way down to a low ledge, and take in the beautiful landscape: two large waterfalls, a winding river, and lots of volcanic rock - John's favorite part. John starts heading my way, with a small trail of followers behind him. Not thinking anything of it, I continue to soak it all in. John shimmies down to the low ledge with me, gives me a hug, and then drops to a knee. I will never forget this moment with John in Iceland surrounded by only our friends and God's creation.
