Halona's version: One Saturday in August of 2023, I visited my local bouldering gym called Beehive. My friend, Tarini, had organized a group hangout with some new hires. Levi was among those invited and I saw him observing climbing holds with his hands respectfully folded behind his back, like an old asian man. He came over and introduced himself before we went to climb walls. Levi was very helpful and pointed out the best paths to take and gave encouraging suggestions. Afterwards, we all went to breakfast and I could tell that I wanted to be his friend. Turns out, we became best friends for the next year and eventually a little more than friends :) Levi’s version: Looking back with perfect clarity, the seeds of our love were sown in the late 00's when my Uncle Brad invited me to a scouting jamboree at Kootenay Plains and I fell in love with rock climbing. Having uprooted my life from Edmonton and to Manila, I was searching for two things: friends and a new climbing gym. It was here among a large group of colleagues that I first noticed Halona, laughing with some friends and trying to work out the best way to ascend one of the routes. I was struck by her quick smile and we chatted for a bit about some techniques and exchanged names. Later that same day at a group breakfast Halona took charge, asking everyone to go around and give a synopsis of their backgrounds. Having sussed out that she seems like the kind of person I might want to make a part of my life, I invited her along on an upcoming adventure into the Cordillera mountains and she immediately said yes. We have been saying yes to each other ever since.
