Chris grew up in Sugar Hill where his family owned (and still owns) an iconic/THE BEST breakfast restaurant (Polly’s Pancake Parlor!). From a young age he helped out in the restaurant until he was old enough to start flipping the pancakes. Hallie grew up in Kingston, Massachusetts but vacationed in New Hampshire with her family since she was little. She was only about 5 when she first tried Polly’s—a place her parents had gone to several times together and even before they met! Eventually in 2003, Hallie’s father built a log home in Sugar Hill just up the road from Polly’s (and Chris’s childhood home) for them to stay during vacation. It wasn’t until the summer of 2016 that Chris caught Hallie’s eye. She always knew of him—the exuberant waiter guy with all the energy who she assumed was part of the Polly’s family. But one day he waited on her and her parents and made her a “panwich.” It’s a big breakfast sandwich, but pancakes act as the bread. Maybe food is the way to the heart … but something about his energy and animated personality captured Hallie. With a big, silly, and seemingly hopeless crush and after MANY subsequent trips to Polly’s, it wasn’t until over a year later that Hallie had the courage to leave a $5 bill with her number on it for Chris under a bottle of hot sauce. Though they were sort of (kind of?) off and on friends for a while, another year or so passed and they realized just how special their weird and unique connection really was. After a few years of dating, watching SpongeBob, and eating sweet potatoes, Chris asked Hallie to be his forever sweetheart beside the ocean.
