Things To Do
The New Hampshire Lakes Region is a four-season vacationland dominated by many large glacial lakes and the White Mountain National Forest.
Lake Winnipesaukee, the largest area lake, is in the foothills of the White Mountains and has nearly 290 miles of shoreline – one of the largest natural U.S., freshwater lakes outside of the Great Lakes; it is approx. 25 miles long and 9 miles wide and boasts over 264 islands.
The White Mountain National Forest contains over 750,000 acres and the Presidential Mountain Range of which Mt. Washington is the highest peak in the Northeast at over 6,288 ft. The “Whites” are home to 48 major peaks over 4,000 ft. and contain six federally designated wilderness areas. One hundred miles of the Appalachian Trail travel through the White Mountain National Forest.
Only slightly further afield, about an hour and one-half drive, are the exquisite Atlantic Ocean beach towns of Ogunquit and Kennebunk Maine.
