Things To Do

We are so grateful to those who will be making the journey to Hawaii. It is a beautiful place with a unique history and culture and wonderful people. Please read below for tips for out of town guests, as well as a few of our favorite things to do.

Out of town guests - please read:

Honolulu is not immune to issues that many other large cities experience. Here are some tips that we hope will help make your visit a memorable and enjoyable one: Do NOT leave valuables in your vehicle or anywhere unattended. Vehicle break-ins are a common occurrence. Do not approach or harass any wildlife (sea turtles, monk seals, native birds, etc.). This is a serious offense, carrying fines. The ocean can be unpredictable and dangerous. Don’t turn your back to the ocean; observe signs and obey lifeguard instructions. Most Hawaii residents embody the aloha spirit and will welcome you warmly. If someone approaches you in any other manner, do not engage. Stay on marked trails when hiking. Traffic in Honolulu can be horrendous at any time, but particularly during rush hour on the freeways. Please plan your commutes accordingly. Learn about Hawaii’s history, culture and customs. For more information about the islands, planning tips, etc., click View below.

Hiking/Scenic Walks in Beautiful Oahu

Tons of options! Our favorites are: - Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail: Moderately difficult, paved trail to the scenic Makapu'u lighthouse. - Aiea Loop Trail: Moderate 4-mile trail on a mountain ridge. May be muddy depending on weather conditions. - Koko Crater Railway Trail: Very strenuous, stair climbing trail that is great for those who want a workout with a rewarding view.

Hit the Beach!

There is no shortage of beaches on Oahu, and there's almost no wrong options. A few of our recommendations are: - Waikiki & Kaimana beaches- the most convenient options for those staying in Waikiki - Kailua (east side), Waimea and Haleiwa (north side). Note that parking availability varies depending on location and time, but back-up options are plentiful if you need to pivot. Also, make sure to secure valuables & lock your car.

Try Hawaiian Shave Ice!

So many great options available! - Waiola Shave Ice - Kelli's all-time favorite! (Honolulu) - Island Vintage Shave Ice (Waikiki) - Kokonuts (great reward after Kokohead or Makapuu) but there are many more great options can be found throughout the island. Highly recommend adding a scoop of ice cream, a snow cap (condensed milk), and/or mochi to your shave ice!

Haleiwa Historic Town

Haleiwa, HI 96712

Beautiful town on the north shore of Oahu with lots to do! Nearby to many beaches, and Matsumoto Shave Ice and Giovanni's shrimp truck are highly recommended if you visit!

Eat Like a Local

Oahu has a great food scene, taking on inspiration from a variety of cultures. Some of our favorite foods + restaraunts include: - poke (lots of good options - including the grocery store!) - manapua (char siu pork buns) from Chun wah Kam - Ben's favorite food item! - Leonard's Malasadas (Portugese donuts), - Loco mocos (brunch food) - Spam musubis Restaurant Recommendations: - Tonkatsu Tomafuji (Japanese pork cutlets. must get reservations way in advance - but it's so worth it if you can get one) - Wagaya Ramen or Marugame Udon for noodle lovers - Highway Inn (traditional Hawaiian fare) - Liliha bakery for brunch (highly recommend trying a poi mochi donut or creme puffs)
