We matched on Bumble just before the holidays in 2022, and while we instantly connected, it took us a little while to finally meet in person. Between traveling for Christmas and Haley catching COVID, our first date kept getting pushed back. But as fate would have it, timing worked out exactly as it was meant to. When we finally met, it was at an empty sports bar in Frederick, Maryland. It was casual, comfortable, and the perfect place for two people about to start something special. Of course, no great first date is complete without a funny memory. At one point, Haley, nervous and excited, accidentally ended up drinking from two straws at once. The waitress had taken her empty water glass, and Haley grabbed her straw to reuse. When the waitress brought back a refill with a new straw, Haley, too shy to do anything else, just sipped from both. About six weeks before our trip, he reached out to a photographer to coordinate the perfect surprise. Using his “Adventure Book Challenge” as a clever cover, he planned a “Bae Day” that would give them the chance to explore the island together, carefree and happy. They spent the day riding through the sunlit hills in a buggy, laughing, soaking in the beauty of the island, and enjoying every moment side by side. As the day came to an end, Troy led Haley up to a beautiful hilltop overlooking the sea. The sky was painted in gold. There, surrounded by the stunning views of Naxos, he got down on one knee and asked Haley to be his wife. That moment on the hilltop was everything they had dreamed of: heartfelt, beautiful, and full of love. Haley said yes, through happy tears and laughter, as the photographer captured the memory that would mark the beginning of their next great adventure together.
