We met at Camp Twin Creeks in the summer of 2004. I had braces, Sam had high standards...it didn't work out. Fast-forward to the summer of 2008 and we were back at the same camp as counselors together. We became quick friends, and spent the next few summers exploring wild & wonderful West Virginia with our fellow counselors. We kept in touch throughout the years, and eventually decided to try dating in real life. In January of 2013, Sam moved to Charlottesville and we made it official!
Summer of 2020 would have been the 20th anniversary of Camp Twin Creeks, and we had big plans for a reunion with all of our camp friends. When that wasn't able to happen, we decided to plan a smaller trip instead. Sam told me he was going to propose (he knows I don't do surprises), but we thought it would be more fun to get married! Two days later, we were on our way to West Virginia for a weekend trip with two of our closest camp friends—Richard and Angela. We kept our plans a secret, stopped at Target for silicone wedding rings, ordered an ice cream cake from the local Dairy Queen (a summer favorite!), and picked wildflowers from the side of the road. When we got to camp, we asked Richard to lead our ceremony and Angela to be our photographer. We exchanged vows at the Fire Pit between the creeks, and celebrated with a bottle of our favorite Walsh Family Wine bubbly (which we'll be toasting with at our upcoming celebration!). It was the perfect wedding for us, and we can't wait to celebrate with our friends and family this summer!
