Their love story began in an extremely unexpected way. It was January 21st, 2023, and on a regular night out to the bar with friends, they found themselves in the same place at the same time. Throughout the night, neither of them said a word to the other until it was time to leave the bar, and that's when a switch flipped for Riley. In the back of Haley's truck, Riley began loudly proclaiming that "he was going to marry this girl" on the way home. By the time it came to part ways, he realized that she never actually told him her name, but she gave him her phone number. When he asked for her name, she turned and said "you'll figure it out" as she jumped back in her truck and drove away. They went on their first date the very next day. Both had freshly experienced different seasons of heartbreak, loss, and uncertainty, but found healing in one another. Their bond experienced turbulence with learning how to navigate grief, distance, and unexpected challenges along the way. Through sudden deployment and heartbreaking extensions, their bond deepened through the struggle, which tested their strength but never their commitment. In just weeks after returning from an eight-month deployment, Riley went and bought her the ring of her dreams and proposed on their second anniversary at the Detroit Riverfront in front of the Renaissance Center (after almost 6 failed previous attempts). Somehow, as if fate wasn't finished-Haley found herself at a bridal show to try and gain some inspiration for a future wedding. Considering that Riley is set to deploy again in the near future, she succumbed to the fact that a small courthouse wedding was the only option they had. This was until her mom pulled her to the MacRay Harbor booth where they were advertising an all-inclusive wedding. Taking a shot in the dark, she applied by writing their story and why they deserve the dream day. On the final day of submissions, she received a phone call stating that they were finalists for the wedding, and they needed to come for an in-person interview at the venue. After a short interviewing process, it turns out that there weren't any other finalists. Through unexpected kindness and with a little help from up above, Haley and Riley were announced as the winner of the wedding giveaway. Their story is far from over. What brought them together was unexpected, and what keeps them together is resilience, trust, and the quiet belief that some love stories are written with purpose.
