Our story began in high school, although we never officially met back then. I was friends with Kemi’s sister, Olivia, from playing soccer together, and I’d often drive her to practice, always thinking Kemi was cute but never imagining we’d one day be together. It wasn’t until a New Year’s Eve party in college that we finally connected. Over the next few months, we became close, and by the end of the year, we started pursuing each other more seriously. Our first official date was at a bookstore where we grabbed a drink, talked about our shared love of books, music, and everything in between. I bought a vinyl record from one of my favorite artists and we bought a puzzle to put together as the second part of our date. I’ll admit, I was a bit caught off guard and hesitant to date him at first—he was just too kind and attentive, and I wasn’t used to that. Looking back, it’s ironic now, because those same qualities are exactly what I love most about him. And from there our relationship has only grown stronger and our love has only grown deeper over nearly eight years together. As we look toward the future, we’re filled with excitement and gratitude for the life we’re building together, and for the unwavering love and support from our family and friends who have been there every step of the way. We’re looking forward to what comes next, knowing we have each other and our incredible support system behind us.
