Question

*Arriving in Roatan- Customs Form*

Answer

There is a mandatory customs form that you must fill out no more than 5 days prior to your arrival. Some airlines will hand out a paper form before landing, but to save time and make sure you’re not stuck in the customs line longer than necessary, fill it out ahead of time. Only one form per family is necessary to fill out. Here is the link: https://sisglobal.aduanas.gob.hn/Pech/#/plataforma/otra_gestiones/formularioDJRV (After you complete your form a QR code will be provided. You may or may not be asked for the QR code at the airport so you will want to have it ready on your phone)

Question

Will my cell phone work on Roatan?

Answer

The simple answer is, no. Your phone will not have service on the island. You will be able to connect to the Internet at most hotels and restaurants as they offer free wifi. However, making calls and texting will be unlikely. Most people and businesses on the island communicate through WhatsApp (a communication app you can download on your phone). This app will work when you are connected to the internet which will allow you to make calls and text friends and family.

Question

Any tips for the airport/customs?

Answer

Our advice is to try and book a seat on either the front of the plane or the very back of the plane. They typically unload the plane from the front and back, so the closer you are sitting to either end, the sooner you can de-plane. This is important because on busy airport days, the customs line fills up quickly and you will discover just how slow lines move on island time 😉 Head off the plane, and straight to the customs line so you can sooner start enjoying the island!

Question

How do I get from the airport to my hotel/airbnb?

Answer

After getting through customs, there will be several taxis available outside of the airport offering rides. You can snag one in the moment, or plan ahead and have your driver waiting for you upon arrival. If you wish to plan ahead, reach out to Jordan or myself and we can provide you contact information for a driver.

Question

How do I get around the island?

Answer

Once you are in West Bay, you can choose to explore other areas of the island or stay put. We specifically chose West Bay for our wedding location so that our guests have everything they need in one place. There are countless restaurants, bars and shopping up and down West Bay beach which means you can relax and enjoy your time! If you are on the more adventurous side and want to explore the island more, there will be several land taxis, water taxis, ATV tours, excursions, etc. offering their services right in West Bay.

Question

Do they use U.S. dollars on the island?

Answer

Most places (especially in West Bay) will take the U.S. dollar or a credit/debit card. However, some local shops and a lot of places in West End will only take cash, or charge a large fee to use a card. They will also sometimes refuse bills that are $20 or larger and bills that are ripped up, written on, damaged, etc. For this reason we suggest bringing an assortment of $10’s, $5’s, and $1’s that are in good condition. Many places will also give you change in the form of their currency, The Lempira, which is accepted everywhere. There are a few banks on the island with ATM’s where you can withdraw cash or Lempiras.

Question

Should I rent a car?

Answer

There is a car and scooter rental business right near the airport. If you are wanting to venture the island on your own this is always an option! Keep in mind that in places like West Bay and West End, parking will be minimal. We never rented a vehicle on Roatan and had a great time exploring with other modes of transportation.

Question

Do I need a passport?

Answer

YES! This seems obvious but I wanted to include it so that you can check your current passport and make sure it is not expired, or apply for a new passport if needed. A passport can take up to 2 months to receive in the mail, so the sooner you address any passport needs the better. We would hate for any of our guests to miss our big day because of a passport issue.

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

February in Roatan will be an average of 80°, with little to no rain. In other words, beautiful. ☀️

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

We recommend staying in West Bay, at or near the Mayan Princess in order to be within walking distance to the wedding venue. If you don’t mind arranging transportation to and from the wedding venue, West End is also a wonderful area to stay in. If you are traveling in a larger group, getting an Airbnb near either West Bay or West End will be a wonderful option.
