Our story began on a little island 30 miles out to sea. It was the summer of 2012, and John was visiting his good friend, Nick Aldridge, on Nantucket. Similarly, Haley was staying on the island with one of her best friends, Brooke Holloway. One night, John and Nick were making the rounds on Main Street and decided to stop in at the Nantucket Pharmacy. Who should end up being there at the same time but Haley and Brooke? We all hung out that evening, walking down to the wharf and doing what teenagers do. We exchanged numbers, hoping to meet up later that week. The next night, Nick’s mom hosted a cocktail party at her home on the other side of the island. When the doorbell rang, the two boys couldn’t believe their eyes: Haley and Brooke were at the door. It turned out that Nick’s mom and Brooke’s mom were good friends, and it was pure happenstance that the four teenagers had met the previous night. Fast forward to the fall of 2021. Nine years had passed since that summer on Nantucket. During that time, John graduated from Westminster and Wake Forest and was attending law school in Miami. Haley had graduated from the Episcopal School of Dallas and Ole Miss and was beginning her career as a real estate agent in Dallas. One day, Haley posted a story on Instagram that caught John’s eye. He messaged her, and they caught up. One thing led to another, and Haley and John started FaceTiming for hours on end. It seemed like every minute of every day (except when they were working or studying), the two were together—albeit some 1,300 miles away in two different cities. While the FaceTimes were great, there was no telling whether this would translate into an in-person connection. Haley invited John to Dallas for New Year's Eve. At the last minute, after John had already booked his flights, Ole Miss was invited to play in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans over New Year’s. Being the huge Ole Miss football fan she is, Haley couldn’t pass up the opportunity to attend the game. So, they flew to New Orleans to attend the Sugar Bowl. When it was all over, this ended up being a five-day first date. And we only have one place to thank: our favorite place in the world, 30 miles out to sea. That brings us to March of 2024. After dating for over two years, John decided to get down on one knee in Naples, Florida. Naples is where Haley first met John’s parents; it’s where they spent lots of time together while John was in law school; it’s where they first said, “I love you.” From Nantucket to Naples and everywhere in between, we feel incredibly grateful to celebrate our love in a place so dear to us with our family and closest friends.
