It was my last home football game as a sooner and I was going to a tailgate party to celebrate. Little did I know the tailgate would have just as many TCU fans as OU fans. Confused as to why I was spending my last tailgate time with TCU fans I decided to start talking to them (thanks to William). That's when I met Joey. He must've thought we hit it off as well since he sat in the student section with me. We like to call it love at first sight. Oh and TCU has not won against Oklahoma since!
A big group of my TCU buddies, along with my brother Ryan (who was a TCU frosh at the time) headed up to Norman for a boys weekend to go to the TCU/Oklahoma game and stay with my brother Matt (who was a junior at OU). Towards the end of the tailgate party at Matt's house, one of the Oklahoma girls (Victoria) approached me to let me know that her friend thought I was cute, turns out that girl was Haley. I immediately walked over and we started talking, and as they say...the rest is history. For the record, even though TCU lost that game...I was smiling the whole drive home!
COVID, protests, and 98 degree weather in Texas didn't stop Joey McSweeney from proposing on June 5th! I was in Texas spending extra time with loved ones. Joey was planning on coming the next day to visit. My best friend LeeAnn asked me to go for a girls day at the Statler Hotel Rooftop Bar. Once we got there I saw Joey dressed up standing across the rooftop pool. If you were there, you heard my scream! After he got down on one knee we facetimed our California family and celebrated with our Texas family & friends. It truly was the best day!
