Haley and Bruin both moved across the country to start medical school at Washington University in St. Louis in 2019. They first met at a student meet & greet at Jeni's ice cream. They became close friends and study partners, attending lecture and studying together. At a party celebrating their first medical school exam, Bruin asked Haley out!

In July 2022, Bruin designed a fabulous treasure hunt around St. Louis, where he and Haley "walked down memory lane". The treasure hunt led them to the bottom of Art Hill, where Bruin proposed with Haley's grandmother's ring. She said yes!
