FAQs

Question

Do I need a passport?

Answer

No! You do not need a passport to get to St. John. You only need a passport if you plan to take a trip over to the BVIs.

Question

When do I need to book flights?

Answer

An ideal time to book flights would be around 6 months out which results in November. However, we recommend checking periodically across airlines. If you see one at or below $500, book it!

Question

How do I get to St.John from St.Thomas?

Answer

There will be multiple taxis sitting outside of the St. Thomas airport ready to take you to one of the ferry ports. There are two ferry options from St.Thomas over to St.John depending on your flight arrival time—Red Hook and Crown Bay. Please see our separate travel website for more information on those. Note: Have cash readily available for the taxi. *We recommend buying your ferry tickets beforehand and either downloading them to your Apple Wallet or printing them out to have with you*

Question

Do I need to rent a car?

Answer

If you are staying in Cruz Bay then you will easily be within walking distance to each of our events, as well as many restaurants, bars, coffee shops, grocery stores, etc. We will also be providing transportation to and from the wedding. If you are staying outside of Cruz Bay or in a private villa, we highly recommend renting a car. There are open air taxis available on the island, however they can be pricey and often unreliable. Keep in mind that the roads on St. John are narrow and windy, and cars drive on the left side of the road.

Question

Where do I get groceries?

Answer

Starfish Market: This grocery store has the largest selection on the island and is most similar to grocery stores at home. This is a great option for meat and produce, however it can be more expensive. It is 0.6 miles from Grande Bay (15 min walk). Dolphin Market: This is also a great option for groceries as it still has a decent selection and is slightly less expensive than Starfish. It is 0.3 miles from Grande Bay (10 min walk). Pine Peace Mini Mart: This grocery store has the best prices on the island, however the selection is also the most limited. We recommend going to Starfish or Dolphin first for your main groceries, and you can supplement here throughout the week. It is 0.9 miles away from Grande Bay (20 min walk).

Question

What do I pack?

Answer

Reef-Safe Sunscreen: 100% biodegradable, mineral sunscreen is required on beaches/boat trips. Other sunscreens are actually illegal in the USVI. We recommend packing a couple bottles in your suitcase as it can also be twice the price to buy it on the island. *Sun Bum is accepted* Waterproof Dry Bag: This will come in handy on the boat day if you want to bring your phone or other valuables with you on our stops. Tote Bag: if you plan on shopping around Cruz Bay or beach hopping, a tote bag is a necessity to carry your belongings. Cash: While credit cards are widely accepted, we recommend being prepared for ferries, taxis, tipping, and smaller businesses that prefer cash. There are a few ATMs in Cruz Bay.
