We met in the most appropriate way that anyone from Gen Z can meet their partner—a dating app. Our first date was at an unassuming pizza shop called Nonno Alby's, right down the road from Andrew's apartment at the time. We ate pizza and talked about almost everything under the sun, until we figured we probably overstayed our welcome at the restaurant. Neither one of us really wanted the date to end, so we ended up getting ice cream too... with Andrew's roommates (shoutout Josh and Nate). Most first dates don't include meeting your date's roommates and getting ice cream with them, but luckily Haley wasn't scared off. On our third date, we really solidified our interest in each other with the help of a surprising friend. A stray cat! We had decided to go for a hike and were enjoying our conversation when we came upon a small cat who walked right up to us and started meowing, asking for attention. We figured this cat needed help as we were in the middle of the woods and it didn't have a collar. Even though Andrew is allergic to cats, he picked up the cat and held her for most of the hike back to the car, telling her it's all going to be okay and petting her to keep her calm. Haley knew after that date that Andrew was someone she had to give a chance. We went on a few more dates, and both of us were developing feelings for each other but nothing was official yet. During this time, Haley heard a song for the first time called Float by HARBOUR. When she listened to the lyrics, it reminded her of Andrew and how she felt about him, so she sent it to him. Andrew couldn't help but notice the lyrics as well when he listened to it and took it as his sign that he should take the chance and ask Haley to be his girlfriend. The next time we saw each other, we went for a walk and stopped on a bridge to look around at the water. Andrew took this as his opportunity, and he asked Haley to be his girlfriend... well maybe not in those exact words because he got nervous and it became a jumble of words... but Haley knew exactly what he was trying to say and her answer was yes! Andrew almost fell over with relief. Somehow it was less stressful when he asked Haley to marry him! Neither one of us expected to meet our life partner on a silly dating app, but we both knew pretty quickly that we had found the one we wanted to spend the rest of our lives with. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how exactly we were brought together. What matters is that we found each other and realized that we can't live life without each other.
