The Senator John Heinz History Center, an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, is the largest history museum in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, United States. Named after U.S. Senator H. John Heinz III from Pennsylvania, it is located in the Strip District, right across the street from the Hampton Inn hotel block!
This museum is seven (7!) stories of Pittsburgh's own Andy Warhol's early and famous works of art. The museum is very close to the Holiday Inn & Suites hotel block, PNC Park, and our reception venue.
Pittsburgh is on the brewery scene, so if you like craft beer, we recommend you check some out while you're here! Here are some of our favorites: Grist House Craft Brewery Coven Brewing Cinderlands Beer Co. Eleventh Hour Brewing Hitchhiker Brewery Dancing Gnome Brewery
If you're out and about looking for great coffee, pastries, breakfast, etc., we recommend the following shops: In the Strip District (near Hampton hotel block): La Prima Espresso Co., De Fer Coffee & Tea, Colangelo's Bakery, P&G Pamela's Diner, In Lawrenceville (Haley & Aaron's neighborhood): Inkwell Coffee, La Gourmandine, Lola's Eatery, Geppetto Cafe, Oliver's Donuts. Other great spots that Haley and Aaron love in PGH: Scratch & Co., Noodlehead (Thai food), Thyme Machine (it's great, but expect a line!)
Unfortunately, the Pirates are away for our wedding weekend, but if you have extra time in Pittsburgh, we highly recommend going to PNC Park for the Pirates game on Monday, August 18th. The Pirates (also called "The Buccs") play the Toronto Blue Jays at 6:40pm. We know they aren't very good, but the stadium is one of the most scenic ballparks with great views of downtown!
This is located on the North Shore, near our reception venue and the Holiday Inn & Suites hotel block. It's nationally renowned for its variety of rare birds, but you will never see Aaron visiting, and he doesn't want to hear about it! Located in the Allegheny Commons on the North Shore, this is close to the Holiday Inn hotel block.
Phipps Conservatory was built in 1893 and features 23 gardens with unique plants and flowers from many corners of the world. Visit to see beautiful flowers and learn about their sustainable architecture and green practices. Haley and Aaron share an appreciation for plants, so they visit Phipps once or twice a year to see their seasonal exhibits.
If you're looking to venture out to another part of Pittsburgh, visit the Carnegie Museums of Art & Natural History, located in the same building in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh.
