The Start of Something New
Noah and Haley met the old-fashioned way: on Bumble. Noah invited Haley to grab a decaf coffee (he wasn't quite sure how Mormonism worked, but his heart was in the right place). They met up at Northside Social in Arlington Virginia on a beautiful fall day and proceeded to take a walk around the park, chatting for hours, before ending the date by grabbing cupcakes at Bakeshop. Within 30 minutes of the date ending, Haley texted Noah to ask for a second date. She was down bad (and he was too).
It's Officially Official
After some time apart for the holidays, Noah and Haley both got back to the DC area and started officially dating. A few short months later, after a magical date in the Smithsonian Gardens to see the magnolia trees in bloom, they said "I love you" for the first time. During this period the two were traveling constantly, leading to many long FaceTime calls and voice messages. Eventually, Noah invited Haley to visit Calgary with him just so the two wouldn't go so long without seeing each other.
Meeting the In-Laws
Over 4th of July weekend, Haley joined Noah for a family vacation in Boston and got to meet nearly his whole family (parents and four out of five siblings is pretty close!). Miraculously, she still wanted to keep dating afterwards. Over Labor Day weekend, the two traveled to Utah where Noah met the whole VanOverbeck / Hanni clan and Noah studied more than he had in his entire life to remember everyone's name. Both sets of parents knew that their child had found the person right for them.
Building a Home
After Noah racked up hundreds of miles on his electric scooter riding to and from Haley's apartment, they decided for safety's sake that they should just move in together. The two browsed way too many Zillow listings before eventually finding a dream apartment near Old Town Alexandria. Even with the typical challenges of moving in together (seriously, who organizes their books by color rather than author?) they were thrilled to have a shared space and build a home together.
The Proposal
After months of living together and building a shared life, Noah and Haley knew they were ready to get engaged. On a gorgeous August day they brought a picnic to the Netherlands Carillon in Arlington, home to a memorable early date, and gazed out over Washington DC. Noah blacked out while giving a speech about how he never knew he could love someone so much, and asked her to marry him. Haley blacked out while saying yes. A kind stranger named Emily ran up to them shouting "Did you just get engaged?!? I love love!!!" and took many photos of them. Afterwards, the two returned to Bakeshop, where they went on their first date, for a celebration cupcake.
Our Day
We look forward to having our friends and family join us at the beautiful Northampton House to witness our marriage in an interfaith ceremony! Noah will cry a lot. Haley will too. There will be dinner, dancing, and enough love for a lifetime of memories.
