May 1st is Beltane! Beltane (or May Day) is when Irish pagans celebrated the return of summer; when the sun is high and bright and land is more fertile. Beltane is one of the main sabbats (holidays) where handfastings occur. A handfasting is a pagan wedding ceremony where the newlyweds’ hands are tied together in unity, it’s where the phrase “tying the knot” came from!
Only a few people are coming to the ceremony, it will be very small and intimate. We are inviting everyone to the reception to celebrate our handfasting!
A handfasting is an ancient Celtic marriage tradition where the couple’s hands are bound with cord (sometimes ribbon) to symbolize unity.
