Colton and I dated for a short time in the summer of 2011 before I broke his innocent 16 year old heart because I was too shy to be in a relationship. I liked him so much that it made me nervous! We stayed in touch over the years and hung out here and there, but ultimately went our separate ways. After college I moved home, and in September of 2019 our mutual friends (shout out to Katie and Avery) were trying to set me up with a friend so I wasn’t always their third wheel. Colton was suggested and I perked right up! Turns out he had the same reaction, and we both had thought about each other often over the years. Next thing I knew I was on a date with him at Waterworks and we’ve been inseparable ever since. Who would have thought that our short highschool relationship almost a decade ago would lead to us getting married. Together we’ve experienced a pandemic, job changes, adopting a dog, moving, and lots of adventures. Everything just fell into place at the right time and it felt like every experience we’ve had led us back together. It was always meant to be.
After many months of me dropping not so subtle hints, Colton finally popped the question and it was PERFECT. For those of you that don’t know, my family has a tradition of vacationing in Maine every summer. My favorite place in the world is The Nubble Lighthouse in York, Maine, so much so that I have it tattooed on my arm. On our annual trip to York in July 2021, after the skies cleared up from a rainy morning, Colton suggested we all walk half a mile to The Nubble. It was suddenly beautiful out and everyone was sick of sitting inside so we all got ready to go. I had a feeling he was going to propose during our trip but this seemed spontaneous so I didn’t think much of it. As we were taking photos infront of the light house, Colton told me to hold on because he had a rock in his shoe. He bent down to fish it out and as I stood there waiting to get a picture with him he was suddenly on one knee asking me to marry him. It was a truly perfect moment with our bestfriends and family there to celebrate.
