My family and I moved from Abilene to Somerset, TX when I was 15 and that is when I met the woman of my dreams. When I met Hailey in high school I always wanted the opportunity to date her and really get to know her. I even jokingly told my friends that I was going to marry her one day. I always thought Hailey had gone off to college and got married and had started her life. Fast-forward almost a decade later...I was talking to her cousin, Mariah, and she told me that Hailey had in fact been single for a long while, so after a few months of bugging Mariah I finally got Hailey’s number. I decided to text in hopes that she would be interested in going on a date with me. We hit it off really well and after all of our conversations I knew Hailey was someone I really cared about. Once I returned home from working my hitch I put on my best shirt and starched jeans, washed my duramax and waited nervously outside her parents house to pick her up for our first date. As was no surprise she was and always has been the most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes on. I was even more nervous than before so I did what any ole cowboy would do & I took her out to get a steak and drinks. As we talked over dinner I knew that a couple of hours was not enough time; she was/is the most amazing person I had ever met. I was a nervous wreck, but everything between us came so naturally. I decided to take a drive out to the country where we talked and talked. Under the stars her eyes were calming & her hands made me feel like everything I had waited for in life was finally fulfilled. We held each other and listened to the radio until it was time to take her home. I knew she was the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, the woman who made me a better man, the woman who I had adored as a teenager was actually so much more amazing than I could have ever imagined, she is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I thank god everyday for placing her in my life.
The first time I met Tyler was somewhere around 10 years ago. I wish I could remember the exact day I laid eyes on him at Somerset High School, but I’d being lying if I said I did. I remember Tyler being shy, sweet, and a really good friend, but never anything more. Flash forward 10 years, I was at work when my cousin, Mariah, texted me saying Tyler wanted my number to take me for a steak and some margaritas. I laughed, rolled my eyes, then instantly texted my mom. She told me to stop being so dramatic, so I went to my co-worker, Cassia, who told me in a very sassy voice, “IT IS JUST A DATE, YOU DON’T HAVE TO MARRY HIM.” I gave Mariah the go ahead to give him my number and within seconds I had a text from “T.Mitch” (his number was still in my phone from high school). We started texting all-day and talking on the phone all night. After a couple of days Tyler finally told me that he had liked me since high school, I laughed of course in disbelief. But as the days went on I started to believe every word he said. After a couple of weeks our schedules finally lined up for our first date. On February 9, 2018 Tyler did as he promised and took me for steak and margaritas. I had never been so nervous in my life, but as soon as I saw Tyler in person for the first time after all those years all my walls went crumbling down. I remember him nervously waiting outside the gate at my parent’s house as I walked to him trying my hardest not to fall. He was and still is the most handsome man I’ve ever seen. I had never met such a gentleman and I knew as soon as he helped me into his monster truck that everything I had been through, every decision I had ever made led me right there, with him. On the way home we went down a dirt road and parked his truck and talked about everything you could think of. We stayed there quiet as he played a song for me, That Man by Jon Pardi. From that day he has been "That man"; my greatest blessing, the love of my life, best friend, and my lobster.
