It all started when two audacious young adults travelled to Europe looking for adventure, but ended up finding a crazy, spirited and charmingly perfect soul mate. Michael and Hailey first locked eyes in a hostel elevator in Rome. Michael was ready to mingle wearing the quintessential Canadian fashionable apparel – a Bass Pro Shops hat, tank-top, and jean-shorts. Hailey was not impressed with this exotic Canadian, good thing he was dressed like a laborer because it was time to get to work. The two got to know each other over a few drinks at the Hostel bar, and dinner with a collective group of friends at the Italian restaurant down the street. Hailey was attracted to Michael’s charming wit, intelligence and the similar upbringing and values they share. Michael learned that Hailey liked hockey (so she claimed). Michael finished Hailey’s dinner, complained about the peas, and so this endearingly cliché love story was born. Michael went back to Canada, Hailey to California, and the two kept in touch frequently. After several visits to each other’s hometown, Michael bridged the distance and moved to Arizona for graduate school in 2013, and then ultimately to California in 2015. After two years of living together in a tiny Laguna Beach apartment, Michael decided it was time to lock it down. A diamond ring, sunset boat cruise out of Newport Beach, bottle of Cristal (that mostly ended up in Hailey’s hair) and the two were engaged. Time to celebrate! We can’t wait for what lies ahead and are looking forward to writing the rest of this story with all of you at the wedding!
