We lived on the same floor of our dorm freshman year of college. Truth be told, I avoided him for a good year as he was always walking around with Ben and I simply could not tell them apart. One night I caved and ate dinner with him at the Pilot House, we stayed until they closed and I guess the rest is history! And yes, I can now tell Dan and Ben apart.
Dan's Version: The day was 1.23.21. Hailey had thought for weeks that I would be out of town visiting my Uncle this weekend. Little did she know, I had been in constant communication with her friends and family about setting up the proposal. Today was finally the day, and instead of heading to Portland that afternoon, I packed up my things, grabbed the ring and headed to Bellevue. I checked into our hotel room and then met Katie, Mia, Dylan, and Brae at Harbor Steps where it would be happening. We got up to the top floor lounge and began setting up. Katie, Mia and Dylan quickly helped me rearrange and decorate the lounge while Brae and I tested certain spots that would be best for pictures and lighting. Once the room was set, I texted Gabby, who had been in charge of keeping Hailey preoccupied, that we were ready. Everyone except Brae and I left, and we waited. I was nervous and excited and I kept trying to practice the best way to grab the ring from my suit pocket. After what felt like forever, Gabby brought her into the room, Brae played some Ed Sheeran, and Hailey started crying. The sun was slowly starting to set over the waterfront through the lounge windows and the moment was perfect. I proposed and we then went to celebrate with family at the most beautiful afterparty set up by her parents and Lauren. All in all, it could not have gone better! Hailey's Version: He popped the question January 23 2021 and all I remember saying was "FINALLY!".
