Michael and Jessica met each other in the summer of 2020 using an online dating app. They immediately felt a connection and spent every waking moment texting/chatting with each other. One weekend in June, Jessica decided it was time to meet in-person. At the time many restaurants, bars and social spaces were closed so they decided to keep it simple and go for an evening walk around Clawson.
After their walk around Clawson Jessica was eager to spend more time with Michael so she asked him out for a 'real' date. They decided to go out for drinks at one of Jessica's favorite places in downtown Detroit, 8 Degrees Plato which is a craft beer store with a small bar in the back. They spent the evening deep in conversation, getting to know each other, including their families. One fun little surprise - behind the bar was a random bottle of nice champagne so the bartender decided to share it Michael and Jessica to celebrate opening back up after quarantine.
One evening in October Michael and Jessica were playing their favorite table game Carcassonne. Carcassonne is played by drawing square tiles from a bowl and matching them to another tile on the table to create the board. Without knowing, Michael had an engagement ring taped to the back of one of the tiles. But Jessica never picked that tile! Michael had to pick the tile out, lay it on the table and eventually just take the ring off before asking her to stand up. He asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. After many tears and hugs she eventually said yes!
