Standing under the trees at Stubbs, Gary Clark Jr continued to shred one song after another. After the final note was played, both Megan and Sean wanted to grab a drink. The only logical choice...Whislers on the east side. But at this point, they had not even seen each other. But fate or whatever you want to call it, was about to spark a beautiful love story. And this is how we met... Sean spotted Megan at the bar, drinking his favorite, an old fashioned. He told Kevin (groomsman and wingman), that they should go offer to buy Megan and Lindsay (Maid of Honor) a drink. Small twist and pause...Megan said no...but told Sean and Kevin they could sit down still. After a quick sigh of relief, the two sat down and struck up a conversation. Hours later, conversation had flowed from family, to travel, fitness, art, and dance (Sean owes Tanya and Lars on that one). As the night wrapped, Sean got Megan's number, and texted her after work the next day to set up a date. More on that below.
So the story of how they met is cute. Same concert, same drink, hitting it off for hours talking at the bar. Typically it would be a quick follow on date, to get to know each other a bit better. Well, with work and personal trips, it took over two weeks for them to go out. They did have one quick meeting at the Austin airport. They got to chat for a few minutes and Sean was also able to meet Brooklyn for the first time (their love story website coming soon). So it was texting until then...lots of texting. Finally, as Sean came back into town, he asked Megan out for October 20th, her birthday! Surprisingly she said yes to a drink. Sean took her up to the rooftop at P6, and still remembers Megan taking his breath away when she walked through the doors the first time. After a few drinks, and a few hours of talking about their lives, Sean asked Megan if she wanted to continue the night with some jazz. Another yes, and a quick walk down the street to step into the sounds that create connection. A few more old fashioneds and a romantic table in the back, Megan and Sean listened to music late into the night.
To start the story, it is important to note that Sean had the ring in his possession since July. He had held onto it for several months, knowing he wanted to ask Rick in person, and also waiting for the perfect opportunity, all the while extremely sure he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Megan. While Megan and Sean were out visiting her parents for thanksgiving, Sean found an opportunity to ask Rick for his permission, while Rick was carving the turkey (bold choice considering he had a large knife in his hand). Rick was extremely gracious and kind, and gave Sean the go ahead. Meanwhile, Megan thought of a great idea on the drive home to Austin, to visit the white sands park in New Mexico. It is a stunning setting, so after seeing pictures, Sean decided to try to pull it off there! Sean convinced Megan to take some pictures at the park (passed as not weird as Sean likes photography), and bought a tripod to "take some casual photos". Once in New Mexico, Sean and Megan drove out to the White Sands and Sean's heart was racing. They got out of the car, and rushed up a dune to catch the sunset. Sean set up the tripod, and went over to join Megan for their "picture". After a few deep breaths, Sean told Megs how much he loved her and got down on one knee to propose! With several families cheering in the background and Brooklyn hanging out a few feet away, she said YES. ___ Easily one of the best moments of our lives, and with a scene as perfect as Megs, the proposal turned out just how I would have hoped. I couldn't ask for a better partner to spend the rest of my life with. We are so blessed to have found each other, and are excited to share in this special day with all of you! -Sean
