Bill and Lauren met while at Syracuse University (Go Orange!) in the Industrial Design program, and although they had seen each other from time to time around the studio, they had never really spoken to one another. Until one day, Lauren rushed to catch an elevator that Bill was in, and as a result, dropped all of her books! While he helped to pick everything up (what a gentleman!), he noticed that Lauren had also dropped an invitation to a potluck that he was invited to as well for that evening! Seizing the opportunity, Bill smoothly asked her if she would be attending the party, and once she said yes, he rushed home to rally his friends to head to this event he initially had no plan on going to! At the party, they immediately hit it off from the get-go. After a great night of discussing an interesting mix of Hawaiian culture and Philly sports, Bill landed a date, and from that point on, they were inseparable.
During the pandemic, Lauren and Bill were fortunate to spend most of their time at the Roy’s mountain home in Skytop, PA, where they hiked, golfed, and danced all night to the Grateful Dead. There was so much uncertainty in the world; however, Bill knew one thing - that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Lauren. On the day of the proposal, they trekked to the top of West Mountain (a favorite spot of theirs to watch the sunset), and Bill surprised Lauren by popping the question! Immediately Bill's sister and cousin rushed out from their hiding spot, pouring champagne and snapping photos to capture the special occasion. Lauren wanted to FaceTime her family, but little did she know that they had already flown in from Hawai'i and were at the mountain house waiting to celebrate! She was ecstatic to find her ʻohana waiting to congratulate them, and the Haggerty's and the Roy's celebrated all weekend long!
