Bridal Triumvirate: Maid of Love
Ok so this one time this new girl rolled up to the Annapolis High School English Department and we all had to do these icebreakers (ugh!) and so me and Andrew (see bio elsewhere) were talking about our summer trip to New York and how we had this weird hotel room and we kept laughing and the new girl (it was Laura) was looking at us all bright-eyed like you guys seem cool and we were like ok you can sit with us but only if you like theatre and she did and then we all got donuts a few weeks later and I guess by then we were all besties.

Like many good stories, ours began at Annapolis High, though at first we were simply passing characters in each other’s lives. Laura was the theater queen, full of personality and charm. I was the jock, far more comfortable on a field than a stage. By all accounts, we were an unlikely pair. But during the Summer Bridge Program, our friendship really began to grow. Between laughing at the silliness of high school students, adventures at Six Flags, and later working together in the computer lab for evening school, we spent countless hours talking about our days, weekends, friends, dates, and everything in between. Somewhere along the way, the unlikely duo became lifelong friends. Even after we both left Annapolis High, our friendship never faded. Through texts, coffee dates, dinners, and our constant attempts to “catch up soon,” we stayed connected through every new chapter of life. We may not talk every day, but whenever we are together, it feels as though no time has passed at all. Some friendships are loud and constant. Ours has always felt more like a favorite book waiting patiently on the shelf. Comforting, familiar, and easy to pick right back up where we left off. It is truly an honor and privilege to stand beside Laura as she begins this beautiful new chapter.

It was yet another year of a shake up at Annapolis High School's English Department. Several new teachers were lured into the chaos, including a new rabble rouser named Laura D. Hackett. Erin and I were the queen bees of the extracurricular theater program although there was a separate, more oppressive curricular theater kingdom that we were constantly at war with. Laura expressed her interest in joining our court when she overheard us debating something - probably casting, auditions, or some wild idea. Initially, Laura and I bonded over chinchilla care (big thank you for recommending our current exotic vet in Fairfax), but a core part of our friendship involves my scribe duties. Laura is a modern day Scheherazade, so I have taken the role of scribe very seriously as she recounts her 1001 Hackett Nights. I document each one of her stories in the Notes app and look forward to adding more as we prepare for a magical day of celebrating her and Chris's union.
