Ferry Information
Avalon is an easy one-hour ferry ride from several Southern California ports via Catalina Express or Catalina Flyer. Ferries travel to both Avalon and Two Harbors, so be sure to book a ferry arriving in Avalon for the wedding weekend. Catalina Express (catalinaexpress.com) - Dana Point (closest drive from San Diego) - Long Beach (best option if flying into LAX) - San Pedro Catalina Flyer (catalinainfo.com) - Newport Beach (best option if flying in John Wayne airport) Ferry schedules are posted on each company’s website. We strongly recommend booking your ferry tickets at least one month in advance, as sailings do sell out. Bonus: the ferry’s famous Bloody Mary sets the tone for the fun weekend ahead. Note: If parking at the ferry terminal, they offer multi-day parking options. If boats are not your thing, helicopters are available via Maverick Helicopter Tours from Santa Monica, Long Beach, Burbank, Orange County, or San Pedro, with direct flights into Avalon. We recommend browsing available Airbnbs at the link below and booking a home in Avalon, especially if you’re traveling with family or a group. The island is just one square mile, making most locations easily walkable to town, restaurants, and events. Some properties even offer your own golf cart! We suggest avoiding Airbnbs in Hamilton Cove, as it is the only area of Avalon that is not within walking distance of the main town. If you prefer a quieter, more private stay and choose Hamilton Cove, most properties do include a golf cart for easy transportation into town. Just reopened after remodeling. Really recommend staying here! Its right on the main street and has a beautiful courtyard with coffee in the morning and wine happy hour in the evenings.
