How We Met

If you ask Savannah what she first remembers about meeting Chase, she will probably tell you about an argument over sharing sweet potato fries after a kayaking trip. If you ask Chase what he first remembers about meeting Savannah, he will most likely mention her wearing long skirts or walking barefoot into Friday night Bible Studies. The both of them met August 16th, 2024. In January of 2025, both Chase and Savannah were praying for clarity of their feelings for one another. Chase asked Savannah out for coffee at Grin on May 20th. After a few sentences of small talk, Chase said, "I want to pursue a relationship with you. If you are not interested, please let me know now." Coffee was never bought that day, but on May 23rd, Chase and Savannah started dating.

Proposal

Chase was born and raised in Hurley, Mississippi. On his and Savannah's trips to visit his family, he would often tell her about the history of the surrounding area. One legend in particular was about the origin of the name given to the west side of the Pascagoula River, "The Singing River." It was said that you could hear the singing of a native tribe in the river. While Savannah loved to hear Chase tell her about history of where he grew up, she refused to go listen to the ghosts' serenade. During early April, Chase told Savannah that if she wasn't careful, "I'll propose to you in front of the Singing River, and the ghosts can sing to you." Savannah told him in no uncertain terms that he would not do that. On their drive to Ocean Springs for dinner and to watch the sunset, Savannah told Chase that they should go and see the Singing River because he had been talking about it for the past few weeks. After a stop by Whataburger (a pit stop that convinced Savannah they were definitely not getting engaged that night), the two drove down to see if they could hear the river sing. While Savannah was intently listening to the river along the bank behind the Old Place, Chase dropped to one knee and asked the question. Chase surprised Savannah by having dinner with his and her family.
