BEFORE FLYING
All US citizens traveling to the UK need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). Apply online at gov.uk before your trip. The cost is £10 per application and typically approval takes 3 business days.
FLYING TO LONDON
Recommended: London Heathrow (LHR)
LHR is the largest and closest airport to central London with direct flights across a variety of airlines. Once landing in Heathrow, you can uber (30-45 minutes into central London, depending on traffic) or take the Heathrow Express directly into Paddington (15 minutes) and from Paddington, uber or tube to your next destination.
London Gatwick (LGW)
LGW is the other main international airport, and may offer less expensive flights as it’s slightly farther from central London. Once landing in Gatwick, you can uber (60-90 minutes into central London, depending on traffic) or you can take the Gatwick Express (~30 minutes) directly into Victoria station in central London. We recommend Gatwick Express to avoid traffic!
