Outdoors. We will have tents if it rains!
We recommend staying near where we live in North Queen Anne / Fremont / Ballard area. Hotels in downtown are generally more expensive than Airbnbs or Vrbos, so we did not book a hotel block. However, you can stay in West Seattle if you want to be nearer to the ferry terminal. Vashon Island itself is very sleepy and doesn't have any hotels. According to our venue, people don't usually stay on the island itself when they come for weddings. Our shuttle bus on Vashon will only go between the venue and the northern ferry terminal, so don't stay in Tacoma (where the southern ferry terminal connects) unless you're going to drive to the wedding. Tacoma is also pretty far from Seattle, so it would make it difficult to get to the other events.
Not to brag, but Gwendolyn is the queen of dietary restrictions. The whole wedding will be free of tree nuts, peanuts, fish, and shellfish, and there will be ample gluten free, vegetarian, and vegan options available! If you have other concerns, please reach out.
Semi-formal. Because the venue is outdoors, we recommend against wearing stilettos.
Fremont has a lovely Sunday market every week (10am-4pm) with lots of stalls set up for clothes, jewelry, crafts, food, etc. it’s not too far from our planned brunch spot so definitely check that out! Also in the Fremont area: gaze at the Fremont troll, meet some puppies at Resilient Hearts (that’s where we got Maple but they love just having people visit and socialize with the puppies!), get some amazing fruit-blended ice cream from Many Bennies. For food, we’d usually recommend Frelard Tamales but they’re catering the wedding reception! We also really like Red Star Taco Bar and Nuna Ramen, but just wander around and you can’t go wrong :) If you’re looking to head into downtown for some sightseeing, the Chihuly glass museum is excellent, the aquarium is great, and the underground tour is very fun. Don’t forget to check out the beautiful mountains and lakes with some nearby hikes! Discovery Park isn’t quite a full hike, but it’s closer to Seattle and we can’t recommend it enough.
