Forest Park is Portland's 5,000+ acre backyard. We recommend a hike to Witch's Castle on the Lower Macleay trail (a popular Portland landmark) or a hike up to Pittock Mansion for some of the best available views of the city.
We recommend going for a scenic drive along the Columbia River Scenic Highway. Make some stops along the way at some of our favorite spots: Women's Forum and Horsetail Falls are great, and there's an awesome hike at the Latourell Falls stop.
Although Mount Hood is our favorite winter spot, it's also a beautiful summer destination! The ski resorts on the mountain have a bunch of summer activities, including scenic chairlift rides and the alpine slide at Ski Bowl. You can also visit Timberline Lodge, which was used for the exterior shots of The Shining.
Our favorite swimming spot! Day passes can be purchased at the Washougal Mercantile. Contrary to what the name may suggest, clothing is NOT optional.
The Oregon Coast is about a 90-minute drive from Portland, and is truly stunning. We love hitting up the Cannon Beach area. Tillamook is also lovely, Astoria too if you're down for a slightly longer drive (where the Goonies and Gwane film favorite, Kindergarten Cop, was filmed).
Don't let the name fool you-- this is the Best Best Western there is. Located right on the river in Hood River, they have some of the best breakfast around with scenic views. Hood River is a gorgeous town to explore while you're out there, too. Gwen's favorite brewery, Pfriem, is based out there!
23rd Ave in Northwest Portland is a great spot for food and shopping.
Probably one our favorite Portland destinations. Pay $10 to hang out with goats and a ton of other farm animals. Don't wear your favorite pair of shoes!
One of our top breakfast spots these days. Expect a bit of a wait, but it's totally worth it. Dane recommends the French toast, Gwen recommends the sweet peppers, provolone and sausage fried egg sandwich.
If you're interested in a no-nonsense dive bar with great American food, look no further than Buffalo Gap. Their chicken wings are highly rated and a must-try.
If you're unable to join us at our welcome event, we highly recommend getting out to the Corner 14 Foodcarts in Oregon City. Dane's favorite Thai food in Oregon is at the Krua cart, and Gwen can never pass up a lamb gyro at the shawarma spot. Tons of local beers available too! There are even more carts available right across the street.
The BEST Indian in Portland, hands down. Dane could eat the Mango Tikka Masala everyday for the rest of his life.
We've frequented this Happy Lemon location more often than we'd like to admit. If you're into boba, this is the spot. There are other locations in Portland as well! Gwane recommends the dark brown sugar fresh milk with boba.
