On our first date, where Guy (allegedly) starved Nicole, Nicole said she was going to Pamplona in the summer to run with the bulls. Four months later, Guy was on a plane to Spain sitting next to Nicole, on their way to the San Fermin festival. It was the beginning of a lifelong adventure for Bull Girl and Guy Guy.
"I'm just a boring nice guy," that's how he described himself to me. We spent over 3 hours together during our first date and I remember thinking, "wow he really is interested in what I am saying." And after about 10 amazing stories about his own life, everything from riding camels in Morocco to visiting North Korea, I was sold on the nice guy thing, but the boring part was a stretch. Despite being an (infuriatingly) amazing golfer, curler, and all-around athlete, Guy is one of the most humble and kindest person I know. He also has a brilliant math mind, which I pray our future children get from him! The yin to my yang that I have looked for my whole life and thought never existed. His ability to go toe to toe with me in deep movie quoting pulls really won my heart! (You mean Rick Vaughn?) I could go on and on about how wonderful and amazing Guy is, but I'll leave that for my vows and most of you already know he is one in a billion.
Starting with the first few times Nicole and I talked to to each other, I was so struck with how caring and considerate she is. So many of her happy memories were when she was supporting her friends or when they were returning the gesture. I was introduced to many of her friends early and it was amazing to see how much she loved them and how much they loved and looked after her. Then she hit me with her smarts. She claimed that she had to take these IQ type tests for some job applications, but conveniently she scored really high on all these supposed tests and flaunted them to my inferior brain. I'm still pretty sure she just did that to show off. But then things got really serious, in two major ways; first, we started playing Donkey Kong Country and Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball on Super Nintendo together. Although she did fall for one of the classic blunders (no no, she didn't get involved in a land war in Asia) by claiming she was 'good' at Mario Kart and could beat me. And secondly, we started dueling at who could more thoroughly quote the Major League and Jim Carey movies better (it's a close call). That's probably when she really had me ;-) We simply are a perfect fit, we make each other better people, and we like to go on adventures- exactly what I was looking for.
