Jacob and Sara met on Jacob's birthday in a bar in their college town of Madison, Wisconsin. They were out with mutual friends when they first met. They exchanged numbers and snapchats, as was the style in those days (2017). They went on their first date at Rare Steakhouse in Madison. Shortly after, Sara moved away for graduate school, but she couldn't stay away from Jacob for long. They've been dating for more than five years and couldn't be happier to begin receiving tax benefits for their longtime love story.

Jacob and Sara knew they were destined for the long haul early on. They lived together in an apartment before moving into a house together. Most importantly, they have had two dogs together: one dog that they have raised from a puppy and one they took in from Sara's mom in 2024. Since dogs have been such a big part of their life, Jacob proposed with their dog (Eevee) by his side in March of 2025, shortly after their senior dog (Sadie) passed. They spent an unusually warm day at a dog park with Eevee and another family dog. Jacob popped the question after a lap around the park, and they celebrated shortly after with Jacob's parents at their house.
