✈️ Traveling to Brazil & Getting to Ilhabela 🌴 The easiest airport to fly into is São Paulo – Guarulhos International Airport (GRU). It’s Brazil’s biggest airport with the most direct international flights, and about a 3.5-hour drive to Ilhabela. From GRU, you can rent a car or hop on a direct bus to the ferry that takes you to the island. The bus ride takes about 3–4 hours, costs around $16 USD (≈R$90), and there are at least 14 departures per day. When booking, select Origin: GUARULHOS AEROPORTO – SP and Destination: ILHABELA, São Sebastião / Balsa – SP. Once you get there, it’s just a quick 20-minute ferry to the island — it’s free for pedestrians! Feeling adventurous? You can also fly into Rio de Janeiro – Galeão International Airport (GIG). It’s a longer trip — about 6–7 hours to Ilhabela — but if you’ve ever dreamed of seeing Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain, and Rio’s world-famous beaches, this is your chance. You can explore Rio first, then make your way to the island for wedding fun.
