How they met

Natasha and Gus first met in Spanish class. Natasha in 8th grade, Gus in 7th. Gus always tried to be her partner, not because she was the smart student, but because he thought she was cute. With no help from Gus (who’s Colombian and Mexican), Natasha passed Spanish thanks to a clear folder on the floor filled with a Spanish-to-English cheat sheet. Natasha remembers Gus as the shy, sweet boy who constantly flirted with her, and Gus admits his very first impression of her was simply: “big butt.” How romantic 🙄. They became great friends at 13 and 14, the type who were there for each other through every season of life, the hard moments, the fun ones, the in-betweens. There were plenty of ups and downs, but through it all they grew, learned, matured, and always found their way back into each other’s lives. Natasha realized her feelings for Gus were growing stronger during a night out in the city with her cousins and sister, when after a couple of drinks she accidentally told him she loved him. Gus realized how much he cared for her one night at Spycoast (a bar that, if you haven’t been to before, you are sadly missing out). In the middle of a casual conversation, he suddenly kissed her! After growing up together, supporting each other, falling in love, welcoming their son Tavo, and bringing home their puppy Brunson, it became clear that their story was always meant to lead right here.

The Proposal

Gus proposed during one of their sonogram appointments, and Natasha never saw it coming. To make sure she dressed nicely, he told her his mom had made a reservation for them at a fancy restaurant, Insignia, for afterward. But Natasha a proud sweatpants-and-sweatshirt girl refused to dress up for an appointment and insisted she’d just change later. So, she got engaged in leggings and a sweatshirt. Obviously. During the appointment, their sono tech, Kayla, said, “We’re doing something new with our clients, and you’ll be the first to try it! Stand at the edge of the bed and close your eyes.” Natasha was confused (and annoyed), wondering why she had to be the test dummy. She hesitated but went with it, all while noticing that Gus, who is usually full of opinions, was oddly silent and just standing there. When she finally closed her eyes, Kayla said, “Okay, open!” Natasha opened them to see Gus down on one knee. His proposal was, “Ha… will you marry me?” In true Gus fashion: simple. Natasha, in a high pitched voice, said, “Omg are you kidding me!? YES! YES!” Later, Gus told her he had thought about giving a whole speech but didn’t want to mess anything up, so he kept it simple. Very on brand. Full circle back to that shy, kind kid from Spanish class. On the drive to the appointment earlier that day, Natasha had said, “Isn’t it crazy? Our lives are going to change forever soon.” She had no idea it would change in more than one way that very same day!
