February 2018: Gus interviewed for an analyst role on Emma’s team. They both report experiencing inappropriate levels of chemistry. Gus did not get the job. A few days later, Maya and Mahkah invited them both to a Midlands Happy Hour. After a few minutes of awkward conversation, they figured out that they both knew Gus didn’t get the job. After hours of conversation about Star Wars, they ended up staring into each other’s eyes at NuVegan Cafe as their friend Payne third-wheeled. June 2018: Gus thought Emma looked cute at a friends’ Taco Party. Emma was completely focused on eating tacos. July 2018: Gus rekindled the Star Wars conversation at an Independence Day Party but Emma left the conversation mid-sentence to look at a literal dumpster fire. A few days later, Gus asked Emma out via FB Messenger, an app she didn’t use. When she didn’t respond, he contemplated changing his name and leaving town. Four days after that, Emma realized Gus asked her out and she didn’t see it. She was filled with despair, as he had surely changed his mind in the last week. They finally have their first date at Chicken + Whiskey (Emma asked Maya for suggestions and was assured that Gus enjoys both chicken and whiskey). Both made backup plans in case they needed an out. They were incredibly late to those plans. Emma asked Gus if they could schedule a third date before the second date was over. June and November 2019: They met each other's families and got rave reviews. July 2020: Emma adopted Miette and enabled PvP mode for Kicsi. August 2021: Emma and Miette agreed to house Gus, Kicsi, and his relatively small collection of bikes. July 2022: Gus and Emma chose a new apartment together. It has room for even more bikes! December 31st 2023: On a bike ride in Rock Creek Park, Gus proposed to Emma at their favorite place: a tree they repeatedly put giant googly eyes (the Park Service removed them every time). She said no in shock like a dozen times and then remembered to say yes.
