About a 4 hours drive from the resort, this UNESCO World Heritage site is an ancient rock fortress which used to be occupied by King Kasyapa. You do have to climb a lot including walking alongside the rock on some gravity defying steps but the effort is totally worth it!
Sri Lanka is predominantly a Buddhist country so there are a ton of Buddhist temples and you have a lot of options depending on where you are traveling. This one is our favorite and also close to the Sigiriya rock. Tip: Watch out for the monkeys and keep your food in your backpacks or it will be attacked!
This city is located in the hills of the central province and boasts of being the hub of Sri Lanka's refreshing teas. It is a nature's sanctuary because of it's temperate climate and the hills just make you feel like you are in a Karan Johar movie. Make sure to stop by a tea plantation and pick up some fresh teas.
A cute town surrounded by hills, you can visit the Temple of the Tooth (which houses Buddha's tooth), or walk by the Kandy Lake or stroll down the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens that grow more than 4000 species of plants, orchids, trees and spices. Also a popular spot for young local couples.
A small town with a very European vibe because of its Portuguese and Dutch influences, Galle has a story to tell and would be a good place for you to pick up some souvenirs.
A very hippy town, Hikkaduwa is known for it's beautiful warm beaches and extensive water sport activities- especially surfing. Take a tour of the Tsunami museum, visit a turtle hatchery or if you enjoy surfing like Gunjan does, ride some waves out there!
