Our Story

Sophia and Austin’s story began in a way that almost feels like it was meant to happen. Just one month before Sophia graduated from Carroll University, the two crossed paths at a bar near campus. Austin had returned that night after realizing his friend had left a wallet there. What could have been a quick stop turned into something much more meaningful. Across the room, Sophia and Austin locked eyes. The rest of the night unfolded easily—they danced, talked, and lingered together until the bar closed. Before the night ended, Sophia gave him her number, not realizing just how much that simple moment would shape the years to come. The next night brought another unexpected twist. It happened to be “Mom’s Night,” when Sophia’s mom, Susie, came out to celebrate with her daughter. By chance, they ran into Austin again. Sophia, still trying to remember the name of the guy she had met the night before, watched as Austin confidently introduced himself and gave Susie a warm hug. In that moment, Sophia quietly wondered if she might have met the love of her life sooner than she ever expected. Over the next three years, their relationship grew into something deeply meaningful. Faith became a beautiful foundation of their life together. Individually and as a couple, they have grown in their relationship with God—finding peace in attending Mass together, serving their community, and sharing quiet moments reading devotionals side by side. It’s something that grounds them and continually reminds them of the purpose and gratitude they bring into their relationship. Some of their favorite moments together are the simple ones—movie nights, skiing and snowboarding, outdoor adventures, and spending time with their nieces, nephews, and families. And of course, many special memories have been made over meals at one of their favorite spots together: Mom’s Kitchen. Three years after they first met, following a particularly challenging semester of Sophia’s graduate program, the two took a trip to Asheville, North Carolina. In the Biltmore Gardens, Austin set up a camera stand so they could take a picture together. Sophia posed, expecting a quick photo. Instead, when she turned around, Austin was down on one knee asking her to spend the rest of her life with him. Neither of them remembers exactly what was said in that moment—it was a blur of excitement and emotion—but the answer was an easy yes. What makes Sophia and Austin’s relationship so special is the depth of their connection. They can talk about anything, understand each other in a way that feels effortless, and support one another through every season of life. Above all, they share a love that is grounded in faith, family, and the quiet certainty that they were always meant to find each other.
