It was the night after I graduated TXST. A mutual friend had invited me to go bowling with them. I almost didn’t go, but I figured let’s keep celebrating my graduation! We ended up changing plans and went to play billiards instead. I saw my friend near the bar, so I went up to him. As we were chatting, this guy comes to us and just stands there staring. My friend introduced us and Juan said, “Oh, I thought you were the waitress.” I thought to myself, “Do I look like the waitress?” But instead just gave an awkward head nod. Throughout the night Juan asked me questions like where I went to school, and what I do for work. I didn’t think about what he was doing until he asked “Are you married or have a boyfriend?” When I said no, he had smile on his face. Weirdo… I must have impressed him with my billiard skills because as I was shooting my next shot, he looked at me from the other side of the table and asked “Will you marry me?” Of course I looked at him weird and said, “Umm…no.” Mind you, even after all that he had said to me all night, I didn’t think anything of it. When I was leaving, Juan calls from behind me and asks if I need a ride. I said no and his face dropped. He finally said, “Do you think I can have your number?” I smiled and said “sure” but thinking “he’s not going to call at all.” He texted me first thing in the morning.
7 years and 2 fake proposals later, we spent the afternoon at the park that we always go to. I walked ahead of him to get a closer look at the beautiful lake and that’s when I heard him call my name. I hesitated, but when I finally turned around, there he was on his knee. Of course I didn’t believe him, but when I saw the ring, I lost it. With tears in my eyes, I finally said, “YES!”
