Alexa was in Spain for a work trip and had planned to spend a few extra days afterward exploring more of the country. She tried (and tried) to convince Andy to join her, but at first, he wasn’t sold on the idea. On Sunday night, January 18th, despite the seven-hour time difference, Alexa stayed up to watch the Chicago Bears take on the Los Angeles Rams in the playoffs. During the game, she received an unexpected email: her bullet train transportation had been canceled due to a train crash earlier that evening. The next morning, she extended her stay in Madrid for another night and went back to sleep. When Andy finally reached her around 1:30 p.m. after several calls and texts, Alexa had just received another email saying the train wouldn’t be running again until Friday — and she was supposed to fly home on Thursday. Feeling uneasy, Alexa considered changing her flight and heading home early. Andy had other plans. He calmly told her she would be boarding a plane at 3:30 p.m. and that he would be waiting for her in Seville. With no cars available near Plaza del Sol, Alexa grabbed her luggage and ran five blocks to hail a taxi. While speeding to the airport, she bought a last-minute plane ticket to Seville via WhatsApp. With help from some incredibly kind locals, she navigated the airport, sprinted over a mile to her gate with all her bags (a full Home Alone moment, fast-forwarded), and somehow made the flight. Andy was waiting at the gate when she landed. That night, they wandered through Seville, eating tapas and drinking Spanish wine. Andy told Alexa about Plaza de España — how if you arrive between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m., the sunlight hits a certain spot just right. Alexa was immediately in. The next morning, with only two days left in Seville, there was no time to waste. Andy nervously debated between two shirts, played love songs from every genre imaginable, and casually grabbed his backpack, mentioning it could hold anything they bought along the way. As they walked to Plaza de España, the morning was perfect. They admired the stunning architecture and stopped near one of the bridges, where Andy asked a woman to take a photo. Just then, Alexa noticed another couple getting engaged below them and commented on it. When she turned back around, Andy was down on one knee. After asking the question that changed everything, Andy had one final surprise. From his backpack, he pulled out a Chicago Bears jersey — custom-made with Alexa’s future last name on the back. And just like that, Seville became the place where forever began. 💍💙
