How Did He Propose?

02/14/2025

Long Story Short: We traveled to Cancun, Mexico, and one morning we woke up early to watch the sunrise. Standing on the beach, just the two of us, Josh got down on one knee and asked Addison to marry him. Long Story Long: We had just landed in Cancun. After going through immigration, there was a sign that said to go left if you had belongings valued over $X,XXX. Josh stopped and stared at it. He told Addison that we should probably go left because our shoes, laptop, and watches might add up to that much. Addison laughed and said we needed to stay in the right lane since we didn’t have anything that valuable. So, we stayed in the right lane! We spent the next few days at our resort, soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the warm, beautiful weather. On Valentine’s Day (how cliché), we woke up early to watch the sunrise over the ocean. After leaving the room, Josh said he had forgotten his phone, so Addison waited in the hallway. We walked down to the empty beach, and Addison started taking pictures while laughing at all the “Will you be my Valentine?” posts she was seeing. Addison asked Josh why he had never asked her to be his Valentine. He replied that he had a better question. When Addison turned around, she saw Josh down on one knee and was completely speechless. At first, she thought it was a joke! Josh then said his shorts were getting wet from the tide and that he needed to stand up. No pictures, just memories. It was funny, unexpected, and absolutely perfect in its own way. We wouldn’t change a thing.

Our Story

The Invisible String

Growing up, both Addison and Josh had connections to a local ski tow in Chicora. When there was enough snow, they would each spend time there, unknowingly sharing the same space at the same time. Addison was usually tubing or sledding with the “little” kids, while Josh was snowboarding and being a typical wild boy with the “big” kids. They never officially met, but they were always just a few feet apart, connected by an invisible string. Years later, in 2022, that invisible string finally brought them together. They started talking and planned their first date in Butler. Addison got nervous and almost canceled, saying she needed to go shopping at Sam’s Club instead. Josh met her in the Sam’s Club parking lot with a Dunkin’ iced coffee made with the perfect amount of cream and sugar. After realizing they were both “normal,” they decided to continue the date and went to Moraine State Park to walk the trail around the lake. After hours of talking, they discovered how much they had in common. From that day on, they talked every single day, and the rest is history.
