Morgan and Michael first met while attending Capital High School. Morgan was in show choir and Michael was in the band, which meant they often saw one another in the performing arts hallway. Soon, those sometimes turned to a few times a week, then to everyday, until it wasn’t just the performing arts hallway where they would say hello to each other. Eventually, they were “bess frans” (listen, it was high school, ok?). From then, their relationship continued to grow. During Michael’s senior year they both knew that this would be the last year they would spend together at Capital, with Morgan being one year younger. Their friendship remained close as graduation approached but they knew they would soon have to say goodbye to their “bess fran.” A busy summer didn’t allow for much time together. A few nights at “Live on the Levee” and a date to the movies was all the time they spent together before Michael was off to WVU. Despite the distance, Morgan and Michael kept in touch every once in a while, which mainly consisted of Michael’s drunk calls to tell Morgan how much fun college was. However, by the end of that school year the two had drifted apart and rarely communicated. Unlike the summer before, the two friends didn’t see one another or talk at all. The fall semester started and both Morgan and Michael were attending WVU. On the first day of classes, as Michael was walking from the Mountainlair, he held the door open for a few people entering the building. Little did he know, Morgan was one of those people he held the door for. No words were exchanged, but Morgan gave him a slight smile as they made eye contact when she passed. Despite already being late for class, something about that smile made him turn around to find her.
