Colorado Springs sits at about 6,000 feet above sea level. The thinner air means it’s easier to get dehydrated—so be sure to drink plenty of water and even electrolytes and take it slow if you’re not used to the elevation.
October in the Springs often brings sunny, crisp days and chilly evenings, with temperatures ranging from the 40s to 60s (°F). Dressing in layers will help you stay comfortable as the weather changes throughout the day. October thankfully brings some of the most beautiful weather of the year :) - Layers for warm days and chilly nights (think t-shirts, sweaters, a jacket). - Comfortable shoes for walking and exploring. - Sunscreen—Colorado’s high altitude means stronger sun exposure. - Reusable water bottle to stay hydrated. - A hat or beanie and gloves if you plan early morning hikes—it can get frosty!
Kinship Landing has on-site parking for hotel guests. If you’re exploring downtown, metered street parking is available—and it’s free after 6 PM on weekdays and all day Sundays.
Both are good options depending on your preferences: COS (Colorado Springs Airport) is only 15 minutes from downtown. It’s small, easy to navigate, usually has short TSA lines, and is practically stress-free. However, flights can be more expensive or limited. DIA (Denver International Airport) offers many more direct flight options and often cheaper fares, but it’s about 75–90 minutes from Colorado Springs by car (which does offer beautiful views), with potential for traffic on I-25.
Having a car makes exploring Colorado Springs and nearby sights much easier. Rideshare options like Uber and Lyft are available but may be pricier or slower for places outside downtown. For maximum flexibility, especially if you plan to visit Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, or any other site seeing on your trip, renting a car is recommended.
