Trey & Allie had an intimate wedding ceremony, surrounded by immediate family, on the originally planned wedding date of October 10th, 2020. We invite our extended family and friends to celebrate our marriage at a 1 year anniversary celebration to be held on the grounds of Eagle Rock Golf Club in Defiance, OH on October 9th, 2021.
We are both from the small NW town of Defiance, OH, but did not go to the same high school or know each other until the end of college. Our mutual friend introduced us during the 2012 Holidays, when a group met at Fricker's to watch a Cincinnati basketball game and, of course, share a tube of beer. From that moment, we stayed in touch until the following Thanksgiving break (2013), when we both were home and ended up spending most all of break together. At the time, Trey was just beginning grad school at Clemson University, South Carolina and I was living in Washington, DC working in the U.S. Senate. Trey visited me in Washington, DC and after a tough conversation, we decided that the long distance had no end in sight and decided to be friends. Fast forward 3 more years to 2016: Trey was living back in Cincinnati working at an architecture firm. Following grad school in Ireland, I was living in Chicago working at the University of Chicago. After not seeing each other for years, we met at the same time, same place: We both happened to be at Fricker's and eventually decided... well, something was still there. After another great break of being pretty inseparable, we decided that it was time to really give a relationship a shot - despite the distance again. That distance would end about 6 months later, when Trey landed a wonderful job working with Moody Nolan in Chicago, IL. He and I finally got to live in the same city, and, as you can guess... living in the same place went well! You might all assume that I am the romantic in the relationship, but Trey - though not quite as much of a talker - is actually the big softie. When I asked Trey when he 'knew' that I was 'the one', Trey told me it was simple: When he decided to come over to a Greiwe family party over Thanksgiving break in 2016, after 3 years of being apart, he knew he was all in. And he was.
Our story all started on the night of the 2012 UC – Xavier Crosstown Shootout. I was meeting a fellow Cincinnati Bearcat, Kelsey Vandemark, to watch the game while we were home on break at the Defiance Fricker's. Kelsey had brought her childhood friend (Allie) with her, who proceeded to distract me from the game by talking about music, politics, and probably the Cleveland Indians. I cleverly added her on Facebook the next day to keep the conversations going. We briefly dated before we both finished school and began our careers (Allie moving from DC to Ireland, and then to Chicago while I moved to South Carolina and back to Cincinnati). As fate would have it, we would run into each other on the night before Thanksgiving 2016 at none other than the Fricker's where we first met. While we had kept in touch here and there, I had not seen Allie in person for almost 3 years and was admittedly having cold feet in going up and talking to her. After not speaking to her for most of the night, I jumped up and started catching up as she was getting ready to leave with her friends to go to another bar. I ended up tagging along with Allie and her friends the rest of the night, and frankly, Allie has been letting me tag along in her life ever since.
We got engaged at Clear Lake, IN. The Greiwe family has had a cottage on this NE Indiana lake for over 50 years, and it holds a special place in Allie - and Trey's - heart. In other words, it was the perfect place to propose. On the last night of summer 2019 and after dating about 3 years, Trey asked Allie on the end of the dock during a spectacular sunset. Trey, being wise, told Allie's parents (mainly Kathy) that he would propose at the end of the year so they wouldn't be waiting in anticipation! Allie and Trey celebrated in true Clear Lake fashion by drinking gin and playing Euchre. That weekend, Allie and Trey also invited Trey's parents to the cottage to tell them the news. Trey created a classic rock playlist with lyrics containing the word "diamond" (i.e. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Diamond Girl, etc.); the Meyers didn't get the musical hint, but they eventually noticed the ring! Allie told Trey that she wished she could remember what he said to her during the proposal. Being on the same page, Trey gave Allie a book of sketches he drew with stories on the back that detailed their relationship over the years. Allie's favorite sketch was a painting of the Chicago skyline at sunset, with Trey's note on the back: "This [Chicago] will be in our rear view soon, but I would not trade the 2 1/2 years in the city where I learned how to live with you and work through everyday life with the help of each other's company, love, & support." Our website contains a lot of these sketches drawn by Trey - including our Save the Date, featuring our hometown of Defiance, OH. We hope you enjoy the photos and snippets of our story, and want to sincerely thank you for being part of our *continuing* story!
