This is probably one of the most popular questions people have when they travel to Philadelphia. It also has one of the most difficult answers which is - it depends. You can literally find cheesesteaks everywhere in Philly without putting forth any effort. That being said, every Philadelphian has very charged opinions about who makes the best cheesesteak and where you should go. To try to keep it as simple as possible, it is easiest to break it down by neighborhood. Let's start with South Philadelphia - as this is the location that the cheesesteak was invented in the 1930's by Pat Olivieri [i.e. Pats King of Steaks located at Passyunck Ave & 9th Street]. In South Philly you most notably have Pat's, Geno's, and Toney Lukes. In Roxborough/Mannayunk the local favorite is Dalessandro's Steaks and Hoagies. There is also Chubby's Steaks right across the street as well. In the vicinity of Old City there is Ishkabibble's and Jim's Steaks. In Fishtown you can check out Joe's Steak & Soda Shop
