An Invisible String

In a year the world felt quiet, unsure, and rearranged,
Two lives kept moving forward, though everything had changed.
Peggy, strong and independent, content and on her own,
Had weathered storms and chapters that had helped her heart be grown. Greg, beginning fresh again in a brand-new city space,
Left Maryland behind him for a slower, steadier pace.
Encouraged by a circle and a hopeful second glance,
He joined a simple dating app and gave himself a chance. Then somewhere in the scrolling, in a moment meant to be,
She paused upon a smiling face and eyes of soft blue sea.
A vintage shirt, a gentle grin—something felt just right,
So Peggy made the first move there, one small but fateful swipe. What started first as messages soon turned to voices shared,
Sunday nights of football games and conversations that cared.
From laughter over plays and calls that lingered long past end,
They found within each other something deeper than pretend. When they met for the first time, it was simple, warm, and true,
With wasabi peas in hand—her favorite, that he knew.
A hug beside their cars that day, a promise in the air,
That maybe this was something more than chance had placed them there. Then Halloween brought magic—pink wig, a witch at the door,
A “mess in a dress,” she laughing, like he’d not seen before.
An awkward kiss, a tender start, a story they'd retell,
The kind that slowly writes itself and fits together well. When sickness briefly found its way and plans were turned aside,
He called with truth and honesty he simply couldn’t hide:
“This might just be the fever… but what I feel is true—
You may be the best thing that’s come into my life in years or two.” And fevered words or not that day, their meaning only grew,
For everything he felt then… she was feeling it there too. Through nicknames spun from laughter and moments in between,
“Man Friend” and “Sin Wife,” a love both playful and serene.
With knees that dropped “for shoelaces” and jokes that never ceased,
Their days were built on joy, respect, and friendship at the least. A home they chose together, a life both bold and new,
In city lights and shared routines, their partnership grew true.
From separate paths they traveled, now side by side they stand,
Building something lasting, hand in ever-steady hand. Then five years from that first “hello,” beneath a distant sky,
With chocolate words and sweet surprise, came one important “why.”
A ring pop held with nervous love, a knee bent once for real,
A question wrapped in laughter—and a lifetime to reveal. She said yes without hesitation, to the man she’d grown to know,
The one who felt like destiny from that first simple hello. For all along their story, though unseen, it had been there—
A quiet thread that pulled them close with patient, steady care. And now that thread is stronger, no longer far apart,
They'll tie it into forever, one life, one home, one heart. On November first, surrounded by the ones they love the most,
They’ll celebrate a journey that began with just a post. Two paths, one string, one story—
and the perfect time to start.
