How We Met (Moriah's take)

First we did Grease together in 2000. There is a fantastic photo of us with two other cast members peeking out of a porta-potty á la Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe that commemorates that time (Theatre people are wonderfully weird). Then we did Grease in 2005. This time was special: we took over for actors who dropped the show and learned the production together in 4 days. We played opposite each other as Rizzo and Kenickie, and I was very excited that I got to *kiss Greg Good* on stage every night. --Lots of life happened-- In 2016 I moved back to San Diego. I was at a youth theatre production of Willy Wonka that a friend had directed when I saw Greg in the lobby. He was wearing all black and looking particularly handsome, and when we hugged I was reminded of what a wonderful human he was. After the show I texted Michael (best man) and said exactly that: “I just ran into Greg and am reminded that he’s a wonderful human. Can we all hang out?” Well, Michael is a good friend. A few nights later he brought Greg to where I was hosting bar bingo, then suggested we all go to karaoke. In another twist of fate, that same week I had lost my teammate for the upcoming Rugged Maniac race and mentioned it to Danny (bridesman). He suggested I ask Greg. I loved Greg's response: “5K mud run? Sounds like an adventure. I’m in!” It’s been a wonderful adventure ever since. From insisting to ourselves and everyone else that we were “just friends and workout partners” to admitting that we were more than that (one of us got there a bit sooner than the other). Mud runs, hiking, races, Muay Thai, co-directing shows, and road trips. Communication and honesty and fun. Lots of fun. I can’t imagine having a better friend and workout partner and more. Marry my best friend? Sounds like an adventure. I’m in!

How We Met (Greg's take)

Moriah & I met back in summer of ‘99, doing Grease on Mt. Helix. I was chorus kid #5 and happy to be on stage with the talented people. I don’t think we interacted until tech week, and my first solid memory was inviting her into an impromptu photo shoot where we re-made another show photo by all peeking out of a port-a-potty door. The fact that she was willing to squeeze in and try made me like her immediately. “She’s good people,” became my affectionate description. We were acquaintances for years afterward, and our friendship deepened when we did Grease again in ‘05, where we got to play opposite each other. Our rehearsal period may have been -cough- brief, but we got to share a very exciting, memorable, and meaningful chapter together, and we became friends. I like how she describes the next 11 years: “a whole lotta life happened.” --- In May of 2016, I ran into Moriah at a show, and she soon after invited me to try 2 new things: rebounding shoes and mud runs. I said yes, and I’ve happily never looked back. I invited her over for home video workouts and a pattern emerged: run or video workout, then (why not?!) make a healthy dinner together, and watch a movie. We continued to workout, chat, confide in & encourage each other for several months. I think I was the very last person (on Earth) to realize what was happening. I thank God Moriah initiated the “define our relationship” conversation. I talked with the wonderful woman who had become my best friend, and (credit where due) thanks to her, we started dating. Over the last 3 years I’ve been blessed to love and be loved by an intelligent, caring, and passionate woman. She helped me weather job-hunting disappointments as well as adjust to my current job, raise my two children and love them as her own, and together we have participated in over 50 run/mud races. Still, my best accomplishment yet is to have found my person and to be building a peaceful, supportive, fun-loving, exciting home and future with my Moriah.
