Pittsburgh Cookie Table Tradition

In an effort to bring a little bit of Pittsburgh to Detroit, we will be having a Pittsburgh Cookie Table at our wedding.
The Pittsburgh Cookie Table is a long-standing Pittsburgh tradition that grew in popularity during the Great Depression. At that point in time, couples simply couldn’t afford a wedding cake. Consequently, their close friends and family would bake cookies instead, using favorite family recipes. Those recipes were passed down from generations of Italian, Irish, Greek and Eastern European settlers and became the staple of the Pittsburgh Cookie Table. This tradition still flourishes today in Pittsburgh and beyond.
Guests are invited to bring cookies for the Cookie Table. If you plan to bring cookies, please reach out to the mother of the groom, Sharon Maloy (412-260-5707).
If you are contributing to the Cookie Table, please bring your cookies on the day of the wedding. We will have designated family members collect the cookies and arrange them on the Cookie Table.
