We met our first year at Grand Valley State. All of the freshmen went to the same dining hall for meals. Greg went with his friends, I went with mine. Apparently he "checked me out" for months and boasted I'd be his girlfriend someday. He finally introduced himself on the very last day. He had curly hair and a goofy laugh. Summer started, we dated other people, and eventually came back to Grand Valley for our second year. There was that guy again. We ended up in the same business class. I'd flirt with him to solidify a ride back to campus. Soon the car rides turned into lunch too. Then studying. Then dinner. Then weekends. Over the last nine years we've worn a path between Chicago and Detroit. We've built relationships with each others families based on a short weekend, a long drive, and PTO. Our lives pulled us in different directions: Mackinac Island, France, Amsterdam, Charlotte. We just kept choosing us.
