Our Story

It was the first truly warm day of April 2018, and New York City buzzed with energy. Claire was outside the Standard Biergarten during a birthday bar crawl, just about ready to call it a day, when a new group arrived to join the festivities. Among them was Greg, fresh from a pickup basketball game at Tompkins Square Park. As fate would have it, Claire struck up a conversation with a simple, but curious question: “You’re tall - did you play a college sport?” That spark was all it took. Claire decided to stay, and the night stretched into many more hours of unexpected connection. Not long after, Greg and Claire went on their first date—hitting golf balls together at Chelsea Piers. Over the following months, they discovered even more common ground: they played on opposing soccer teams, explored countless new restaurants across the city, and bonded over a shared love of sports, travel, and Equinox workouts. Just a few months into dating, Claire even brought Greg to her sister Meg’s house in Tahoe, where he went snowboarding for only the second time in his life. Greg was a good sport - even after unintentionally sliding down the entirety of Siberia, a black diamond run. Greg and Claire went on to share many fulfilling chapters in New York City - building a life full of adventure, community, and late-night takeout. In 2022, Claire made the bold decision to change her career path and moved to Durham to pursue Physical Therapy school at Duke University. Greg made his way down soon after, ready for their next chapter together. During Claire’s third year of school, Greg joined her on her clinical rotations, supporting her every step of the way. Claire and Greg even had the chance to stay in Detroit for her second clinical rotation at the University of Michigan. After spending the morning after Thanksgiving Day at the Grosse Pointe Santa Claus parade, Greg had a clever plan. He and Claire headed to Downtown Detroit to get lunch with his parents at a place that wasn’t even open. Instead of lunch, he proposed to Claire, and they got engaged in Parker’s Alley. They are now looking forward to getting married and celebrating with friends and family at the Shinola Hotel - a special place because it overlooks the spot where they got engaged.
